There was joy for Hungerford Town on Tuesday evening as they secured their first Pitching In Southern League Premier South win for three months courtesy of a 3-1 away triumph at Hanwell Town.
Recent loan arrival, Kasway Burton, set them on their way before two goals from Louis McGrory sealed the victory.
“It feel like a curse has been lifted,” manager, Danny Robinson, told his club’s media at the end. “It was a fantastic result, which I felt has been coming for us.
“We came under pressure in the opening ten or 15 minutes and I was thinking; ‘here we go again’, but credit to the lads, they weathered the storm and we looked a real threat on the break.
“We did a lot of hard work during the first half and then grew into the game more after the break.
“It was a fantastic opening goal from Kasway – what a way to score his first goal for the club!
“It’s great to have that winning feeling again. What a difference it makes; you really can’t beat it.
“We know that we haven’t been good enough so far this season. Something had to change and I’ve been able to add a bit of youthful exuberance recently with a couple of loan signings and that has helped us.
“Now with a busy schedule ahead of us, we have to be able to take this into those games, starting at Gloucester City on Saturday where we find ourselves up against a brilliant side with plenty of talent.
“Anyone who finishes above them this season will win the League, but we have a good, honest bunch of lads here. Luck has not been our side so far this season, but hopefully that can all change now and we can enjoy a positive festive period.”
