THE ROUND UP | SATURDAY ACTION

Plenty of drama despite the weather

The winter weather played its part again this weekend as a number of matches across our four divisions were postponed.

In the Premier South, with two of the top three in Isuzu FA Trophy action, second-place Poole Town were unable to take full advantage as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Hanwell Town.

Sitting fourth, Gosport Borough were able to bring home all three points from a 2-1 victory at Plymouth Parkway, whilst both Sholing and Chertsey Town were able to edge closer to the top five with wins. A goal in each half gave Sholing a 2-0 triumph over Yate Town, as Chertsey Town left it late to overcome the challenge of Tiverton Town as they won 4-3.

Over in the Premier Central, the top of the table clash ended in a 3-1 victory for leaders, Spalding United, as they beat Harborough Town. They now have a nine-point lead but have played four more games than their opponents.

The remainder of the top five saw their games postponed, whilst just below them, Stratford Town moved within a point following a hard-earned 1-0 triumph over Redditch United and Leiston had a good 4-1 victory over Kettering Town.

There was plenty of action at the top of Division One South where leaders, Frome Town, enjoyed a good 3-1 win at Winchester City thanks to an Archie Ferris hat-trick. Second-place Portishead Town were held to a goalless draw at Willand Rovers as Malvern Town went level on points with them as they were 3-1 victors over Bideford AFC.

Shaftesbury leapfrogged over Bishops Cleeve into the top five following a commanding 3-0 win.

Into Division One Central and leaders, Leighton Town, had to work hard to overcome the challenge of Rayners Lane. A goal from Godlove Oppong with 15 minutes to go proved to be the winner in a 2-1 success.

Just behind them, Hitchin Town made short work of their trip to MK Irish as they came home with a convincing 6-0 win as their rich vein of form continues. Third-place Hertford Town notched two early goals to beat Marlow 2-0.

Biggleswade FC find themselves fourth as they beat Northwood 3-1, with Biggleswade Town making up the rest of the top five as their game at Flackwell Heath fell victim of the weather.

There was also Isuzu FA Trophy action with Walton & Hersham taking the headlines as they beat National League outfit, Brackley Town, thanks to Mason Obeng’s late winner.

Our other representatives also did us proud by unfortunately succumbed in penalty shoot-outs.

Alvechurch went to National League, Yeovil Town, and held them to a goalless draw before losing 4-1 on penalties. Meanwhile Gloucester City made the long trip up to Marine of The National League North and went ahead just before the half-hour through Sion Spence. The hosts levelled on the hour and then went on to win 4-3 on penalties.
