The chance to play in his favoured role as striker under a manager he has previously worked with earlier in his career led Finley Rooke to return to Willand Rovers during the course of last month.
His return provided the Pitching In Southern League Division One South club with a much-needed boost which has seen them win two of their last four games, which also includes a battling goalless draw with high-flying Portishead Town.
Their latest success came on Monday evening as they went to Melksham Town and came home 2-0 victors, a result which saw them step out of the bottom four.
“It’s always nice to get an away win and this one has certainly been coming,” Rooke told us. “I was happy to play my part with assists for both of our goals and it was a real team performance where we followed the game plan perfectly and showed our quality and discipline throughout.
“We’ve picked up seven points from our last four games now and there’s a real buzz and sense of belief amongst the group.
“We’re starting to see the benefits of the hard work that we’ve been putting in on the training pitch. Everyone is buying into the Gaffer’s culture and philosophy and we can’t wait for the next game to come around.
“This is a really competitive League but we’re just concentrating on ourselves and getting our own house in order.
“I believe that we can look forward to the second half of the season and I’m sure we’ll delivery some surprise results over the weeks and months ahead.
“To be back here is great. I am really enjoying my football, which is the main thing. The Gaffer coached me during my youth days at Exeter City, so I know what he wants and expects and at the same time, he knows what I am capable of bringing to the team.
“I am delighted to be back under his guidance, I know that he will get the best out of me. I have come back here to perform and progress and the vision of the club aligns very much with my own.
“It’s exciting to see what we can go on to achieve; the main target is to secure our place at this level and we’ll be doing all we can to achieve that objective.
“Beyond that, I want to keep enjoying my football, contribute as much as I can to the team and showcase my talent.
“I know what I am capable of and I’ll be doing all I can to show it in every game to help this team win football matches.”
