FARNHAM TOWN | DIGGING IN

It was quite a night at Hungerford Town on Tuesday evening

Digging in has taken on a whole new meaning for Farnham Town. Torrential rain threatened to bring a halt to proceedings at their Pitching In Southern League Premier South clash at Hungerford Town on Tuesday evening.

However, thanks to the tremendous efforts of the ground staff, with a little help from the players, ongoing pitch repairs meant that the game was played to a conclusion, with Farnham running out 7-2 winners, despite finding themselves behind midway through the first half.

“It was quite a performance and quite a night,” Adam Liddle told us. “The character of each and every one of the lads was fantastic.

“We knew that this was a big game for both teams; going there on a Tuesday night in such bad weather conditions, we needed to roll our sleeves up and face the challenge head on, which we did.

“I thought that we dug-in and played to our strengths. Even when we went 2-1 down, we refused to let our heads drop and were clinical in front of goal to punish our hosts.

“Personally, it was nice to be back in action having been laid low with a hamstring injury for a few weeks. It’s been hard not being involved, but it was good to be back out there on Tuesday night and grabbing a goal on my return was a nice bonus.

“It’s a chance for us to really kick-on from here now. We’ve closed the gap on the top three, but we know how competitive this League is and how things can quickly change.

“We’ll take each game as it comes, focus on ourselves and try to pick up as many points as we can.

“I’ve played at this level before and it’s only getting better and stronger. There is some real talent involved, not just at our club but also throughout the Premier South.

“You have to be fitter at this level as it’s faster than Step 4, but as a group we’ve adapted well since promotion and we’ve showed time and time again that we are capable of playing at this level and even the level above.

“We’re back on the road again at the weekend as we head to Plymouth Parkway and we’re looking forward to picking up from where we left off… but hopefully without the torrential rain this time!”
