Dorchester Town defied the odds at the weekend to finally end Havant & Waterlooville’s long unbeaten run.
Sitting one place off the bottom of the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table, they were able to taste victory for the first time since the beginning of December courtesy of a 4-3 triumph in what was an entertaining encounter that ebbed and flowed.
Playing his past and back from injury was Marcus Daws.
“It was a great victory and one we fully deserved after what’s been a tough season,” he told us. “It’s been frustrating for me personally with my injury, but I’ve been doing everything I can — inside and outside the club — to get myself back into the best condition. To come back and be part of a win like that felt brilliant.
“The team were excellent on Saturday. We worked hard, stuck together and showed real character. Personally, it felt good to be back out there contributing again, and I was just happy we could get the win for the fans, who haven’t had much to shout about this season.
“It’s a chance for us to really kick on from here now. We’ve got good players at the club and there’s a strong belief in the group.
“It’s been very mixed this year in terms of the Premier South as a whole. Anyone can beat anyone, and it really comes down to finding form and putting a run together.
“As a team, we need to push up the table and show what we’re capable of. For me personally, the aim is to stay injuryfree, get back to my best, and keep progressing — because ultimately I want to be back in fulltime football.”
A home game against a Hanwell Town side that sit just four points above them just outside the bottom four is next on the agenda on Saturday.
