THE ROUND-UP | SATURDAY ACTION

Drama aplenty and, for some, a rare sight of the sun

There was a rare sighting of the sun for some today and there was no shortage of drama across our four divisions.

In the Premier South, leaders, Walton & Hersham fell to a 98th minute loss at Hungerford Town, a result which moved them out of the bottom four. Meanwhile a last-gasp winner from Shaquille Gwengwe won the day for Poole Town at Basingstoke Town, as they secured a 2-1 victory which took them above Gloucester City who conceded a 94th minute penalty to draw 2-2 at Chertsey Town.

It was a little bit more straightforward for Farnham Town who were 4-1 victors over Uxbridge, whilst Sholing move into the top five as Michael Folivi’s hat-trick helped them to a 4-2 triumph over Plymouth Parkway. They leapfrogged Gosport Borough after their game ay Tiverton Town was postponed.

Over in the Premier Central, Spalding United march on following a commanding 3-0 victory over Alvechurch. Just behind them, Harborough Town had to come from behind to beat bottom of the table, Royston Town, 2-1. Real Bedford continued their winning run as Conor Tee’s goal gave them a narrow victory over Stratford Town.

It was the same scoreline at Quorn as a late goal proved to be the difference against Bishop’s Stortford., whilst Redditch United are fifth after their Friday night encounter with Barwell ended in a 5-2 success, including a hat-trick from Aaron Bishop on his debut.

In Division One South, leaders, Frome Town, are 12 points clear after they beat Brixham AFC 2-0 thanks to two early goals, whilst Malvern Town were held to a 2-2 home draw by Westbury United in what was a hard-fought encounter.

Third-placed Portishead Town fell to a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of an in-form Hartpury. There was also defeat for Winchester City, who went down 1-0 at Melksham Town, who are battling to move clear of the threat of relegation. Shaftesbury are back in the top five after they beat Bristol Manor Farm 3-1.

There was a five-star showing from leaders, Leighton Town, as they won 5-1 at Marlow. They hold a three-point advantage over Hitchin Town who ran out 4-1 winners against Ware as Ciaren Jones helped himself to a hat-trick.

Biggleswade FC fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to Welwyn Garden City. They now sit three points ahead of Biggleswade Town who were 2-0 winners at Stotfold. There’s a battle for fifth place as Hertford Town’s 2-0 loss at Hadley, combined with Thame United’s latest win, 4-3 over Flackwell Heath, saw them level on 51 points.
