LEIGHTON TOWN | ON THE CREST OF A WAVE

Dan Hosier full of smiles following Division One Central title triumph

Talented goalkeeper, Dan Hosier, has admitted that he hasn’t stopped smiling since Saturday’s commanding 5-0 victory over Rayners Lane clinched the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central title for Leighton Town.

“Being a title winner feels amazing,” he told us having kept his seventh clean sheet from the last nine games. “It’s what you play the game for, to experience moments like this and I haven’t been able to wipe the smile off my face!

“The season as a whole for us has been hard fought. We’ve worked hard on and off the pitch to grind the results out and get our reward.

“We’ve been the most consistent team in the league all season and everyone knows that’s what it takes to win a title. For me personally it’s been a good season, I think I have the most clean sheets in the division this season, so I am happy about that, but I know I have more to prove and I am looking to really kick on from here.”

Just three defeats from 40 league games tells its own story. They have hit 104 goals and amassed 97 points so far with two more games to go.

“There have been many key moments across the season,” Hosier added. “But I think the 2-1 win away at Biggleswade Town was the most significant.

“To go there and put in a massive performance at one of the toughest teams to play in the league gave us that confidence to push on and go on the run we have towards the end of this season.

“I think Division One Central this year has been very competitive; Hitchin pushed us right until the end and anyone could beat anyone on their day.

“That’s a sign of a good league! No game has been easy, and I’m really looking forward to see who will win the play-offs as it looks very evenly-matched and I’m not sure anyone can call it.

“For us, though, it’s all about ending with positive results from our final two games to complete what will be a memorable season for us all.”

Saturday sees an away trip to Welwyn Garden City before they end the campaign at home to London Lions.
